Has online gaming changed the world of games forever?

First there was the single player game. Then came the 2-4 player games, which was massive for the time. To be able to control 4 people at the same time was revolutionary. Now these boundaries are even surpassed, with multi player online modes in most games. With up to 50 people playing at a time in some games, single player games cannot possibly keep up.

Many single player, role playing games have suffered from this late online boom that the industry has experienced. Classic games such as the James Bond series, Final Fantasy series, and Wild Arms series have suffered from this boom, just to name a few. They have all had somewhat recent games, but none have really done well or gained much publicity.

The new online multi player games often lack a great storyline, if there is one at all. As a person who doesn't read nearly as much as I should, these single player role playing games would be my great story to indulge in. Anyone who has played most of these games can understand what I am talking about. As the story progresses you actually understand the characters and in times of peril feel anguish for them and hope for the best to happen.

I must agree that online games such as Halo 3 and sports games are great online; however, I also feel that they are ruining the old classic role playing games that are only used on the console. I hope that game manufacturers will eventually see this and put as much effort into these games as they have put into online modes in others in recent years.
